Gateway To Homeownership Counseling Series

The MLK Avenue Redevelopment Corporation (MLKARC) in partnership with Hancock Bank and Trustmark Bank presents “Gateway to Homeownership,” a home buyer counseling series for low to moderate income persons who are interested and motivated to purchase their first home.  Gateway to Homeownership is a comprehensive, four-week workshop series designed to prepare households for the home-buying process. Workshops and future one-on-one counseling sessions are facilitated by MLKARC’s trained staff and mortgage professionals.  Here are a few of the things you’ll learn:

• Assessing Homeownership Readiness
• How to obtain and use credit effectively
• How to overcome obstacles to homeownership
• How to avoid foreclosure
• How to recognize predatory lending practices
• How to repair poor credit
• How to prepare a spending plan

Upon completing the Gateway to Homeownership series, low to moderate income participants will earn a certificate and will be eligible to receive a forgivable second mortgage up to $20,000 toward the purchase of their first home.  Limited slots are available; so only committed and motivated potential participants need inquire.
